Role Introduction:

Applegreen USA is in a significant growth phase and is seeking to recruit a Senior Regional Accounting Manager for the finance team in Glen Rock, NJ. The role is responsible for the production and review of the income statement and balance sheet for a number of regions of the USA Travel Plaza operations while also supporting finance transformation projects and helping to implement best in class financial processes across the function.

The successful candidate will be a confident finance professional with excellent people skills such that they can successfully work with both internal and external outsourced team members, embody a high performing team culture, and deliver quality financial reporting to all stakeholders.

The role reports to the Finance Controller and will form a critical position within a dynamic and rapidly changing team. This role is critical to ensuring we are able to provide quality, timely and accurate financial information to our operational regional stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in our day-to-day operations while also supporting the group reporting requirements and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

• A desire to be part of a high performing team environment, consistently challenging the status quo and driving improvements
• Ownership of accurate and timely financial reporting for your operational regions including:
  • Production of monthly income statement at a store level
  • Production of a monthly regional income statement and balance sheet
  • Production of monthly variance analysis commentary versus budget and forecasts
  • Production of weekly management reporting packs
• Full ownership of the execution of key controls and evidencing of same for areas of responsibility
• Analysis of financial data to understand key business performance drivers and where issues are identified managing the resolution through continuous improvement initiatives
• The ability to present financial and operational data to both finance and non-finance stockholders at all levels of the Company
• Lead a team of accountants/ analysts to produce financial reporting for their regions to an excellent standard
• People management to include coaching, training and developing the wider team members to improve overall team quality and deliverables
• Work with internal and outsourced partners to process financial transaction and produce needed account reconciliations
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with the operations team operating as a finance business partner proactively driving the performance of the stores/ region to achieve their financial targets while also providing them assurance over the consistency and accuracy of the financial reporting for their areas
• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
• Understanding of changing GAAP and IFRS Reporting Requirements and their effect on the business and financial reporting
• Assist in the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances for assigned operational regions
• Support in completing the audit process
• Additional duties as necessary including ad hoc project work

The Candidate

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• CPA or CMA or Professional Accountancy Qualification preferred

Experience & Skills

• Proven working experience as an Accounting Manager, Regional Controller or similar role in a company with growth and an evolving team
• 6+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
• Multi-unit, retail, wholesale, or quick service restaurant experience is a big plus
• A dynamic individual who adapts well to change and can thrive in a growing entrepreneurial organization that continues to evolve
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
• Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
• Proficiency in excel and other Microsoft Office applications is required. Previous knowledge in EPM and ERP applications are preferred.
• A critical and independent thinker with the ability to challenge the status quo with a proven track record of continuous process improvement; the ability to quickly analyze current process and implement practical improvements
• Be a proactive, solution-orientated and positive individual who can work through constraints and obstacles to articulate the benefits of recommended practical solutions
• Has strong sense of ethics, who will be a role model for the people Strong accounting software user and administration skills
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, and ability to engage and develop relationships with individuals at all levels within and outside of the organization
• Demonstrate strong analytical capability to interpret, challenge data and to interrogate financial systems
• A highly organized individual with ability to plan and organize own workload effectively for maximum impact and who is flexible and adaptable around changing business needs
